This garden decking project in Morden had multiple facets to it.

The clients wanted a premium deck, at two depths, with an angled joint between the two sections, and an inset step meeting the angle. One of the biggest advantages of AI models and design software is that it is far easier for a client to express and visualise what they would like.

They gave us drawings they had and besides some minor adjustments, that is what we went with.

This project also had some extensive work to be done on the rest of the garden. They wanted the entire garden returned as well as some paving work done. As that is not our speciality, we recommend an incredible Landscaping company that services the area, Fangorn Landscapes.

No wood in contact with the ground.

We were working over an old patio, however our next deck extended past this, so we used a combination of Risers/Levellers and Recycled Plastic Posts to support the decking frame. This means there is no wood in contact with the ground. This is a key element of making a deck last as the UK climate is not kind to wood. The ground generally stays wet for 6 months of the year, meaning any wood in contact with the ground would remain wet for every year. Wet wood is catnip for wood boring insects and is the ideal conditions for mold. However, to avoid this, we simply do not use wood near the ground level.

It has been years since we installed wooden posts into the ground to support a deck.

The decking itself needed to be a neutral colour which naturally occurs in nature. They didn’t want the deck to stand out to a great degree, they wanted it to look like it belongs. The Trex Lineage range in the colour Biscayne is a good match for wood which has been sun bleached, or silvered from natural UV Light.
