We are recruiting for a Decking Labourer/Trainee. You will be working in a team with our Decking Installers.
Oilcanfinish Landscaping are a TrexPro Platinum Installer as well as Jacksons Fencing Approved Installer of the Year 2024. We install the best decking materials available.
You will predominantly be assisting with Composite Decking installations on residential properties with potentially some commercial projects. At the start, this would include removing old/existing decking, site preparation, receiving deliveries, moving materials, excavating work for post holes, building bearers and deck framing. Basic carpentry skills would be a benefit. The longer you stay, the more you will learn: at the end of one full year you will be adding the following items to your CV:
- installed Premium Trex decking products working and learning directly for one of the 15 TrexPro Platinum installers in the UK
- installed Millboard decking working and learning directly for a Millboard Verified Approved Installer
- installed Timber and Aluminium Ballustrades
- fabricated and installed timber staircases
- built decking frames in Use Class 4 C24 Timber, Jacksons Fencing Timber, Recycled Plastic Polymer, and Aluminium
- have a working knowledge of Decking Picture Frames, Breaker Boards, Step and Staircase Layouts, Fascias
- installed Jacksons Fencing products up to the standards of off the few winners of the the Jacksons Fencing Installer of the Year
- installed commercial & residential decking
- a working knowledge of Framing Timber, Timber Treatment Classes, Span Tables, and structural support systems
- a working knowledge of the various types of decking available in the UK and the strengths and weaknesses of each

The ability to complete tasks with as little disruption as possible to our clients, maintain professional language, and professionally represent Oilcanfinish Outdoor Living as an Approved Installer is required. This includes appearance, time keeping, and general behaviour. Mobile phones are to be kept to a minimum during working hours. Mobile phone management is equally important as time management, and is to be managed by you as a responsible adult.
This role can lead to a Full Time Position. This job title can progress to an Installer position upon applicant successfully displaying Fencing and Decking skills and meeting agreed scheduling committments.
- Working Days are Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00.
- £12.00 per hour for initial 3 month period rising based on performance
- Subcontractor Basis paid weekly.
- 20-40 Hours per week including paid breaks (this role can be part time if that is a better fit for the right candidate)
- Reporting to Project Lead
- Spoken English Language is required
- Own transportation to/from work sites required.
- Applicant to have PPE (steel or composite toe work boots, safety glasses). If you do not have these, please let us know as they are required for most working days,
Ability to work in the UK is required.
